Alan what type of interface does your HP722C printer have and what operating system are you using?

Theoretically a printer with an USB or Ethernet interface, PCI NIC required, will use considerably fewer CPU cycles to transmit data to a printer. The USB and a PCI NIC use DMA, direct memory access, and can send data to a printer unsupervised by a CPU. Where as with a parallel printer interface the CPU must supervise the transmission of every byte of data.
