Drop in Canadian rigs blamed on the extremely warm weather in northern Alberta.Broke records during Xmas. There is a concern that the ground is not frozen enough to move rigs into winter access sites.
Weather started to change around New years and getting colder (-25C) so hopefully you will see a rise again in the rig total. Manpower shortages are already a problem here too.
Market has not rewarded the oil stocks here in Canada, companies are only able to spend free cash flow for drilling. No one seems interested in a share issue for financing drilling or if they do its quite small. This may limit the amount of drilling this winter also.
...glad to contribute learned some good stuff here. FWIW.
