I always loved Ayn Rand and her idealogy...

I think you Americans have *almost* got it right. I've lived in 4 countries...of various extremes....and this is the *best* place I like. Free markets....

The govt rewards the hard working. The entrepreneurial. There will never be a perfect state....but at least the "haves" are not wronged just for being industrious...!

I think the voluntary donations by corporate entities is the answer....and thats the culture in SI valley. It will never be perfect, but welfare creates bad habbits. It punishes the hard working and rewards the lazy.....

You have to believe that affluence does not breed greed and unconcern for the less fortunate. Humans are by and large kind and compassionate. If an individual is doing well, they will want to live in a world which is nice, clean, crime free...and he/she will work towards that world becming a reality. Because of the affluence in US, there is so much more awareness of these issues in this country....

Its a human tendency - Rob me and I'll try to rob you back....at least I'll say the F word hope you rot in hell...!!!! Treat me well and I'll kill myself to make you comfortable and happy ! This is true of all mankind - affluent or not affluent...
