Elmer - RE: "I'm saying that if someone boasts of being an investing genius they lose a lot of credibility by only claiming their trades well after the fact. Many people have been private about their affairs and I respect that. I'm talking about the loudmouths who come forward in January and talk about their brilliant November trades."

I think I'm an investing loser since I bought AMD at $33 in Jan '99, sold at $16 near the bottom, went short, covered in mid-$20s and went long, sold in teens, went short and covered at $29.

OT RE: "they lose a lot of credibility by only claiming their trades well after the fact."

I think they may lose credibility in your eyes, but not in mine.

"I'm talking about the loudmouths who come forward in January and talk about their brilliant November trades."

My interpretation of NiceGuy's post was, investing in AMD doesn't necessarily mean the investor has lost money, since it depends upon the positions of the trades.

RE: "Don't you think it would be a little more believable if they claimed them back in November?"

I don't share this opinion. Trust can be a self-fulfilling prophecy to a certain extent. And, high expectations tend to deliver high results/attributes, in both people and projects.

Amy J

Hi fudd:

And I thought I was optimistic when I projected $5 billion in AMD Y2000 revenues predicated upon 10 million "spry Athy" units...

Wow! Now I see Salomon Smith Barney have increased their projection from 9 million "spry Athys" to 12.5 million, just a 40% increment here...

Just how Polly are Salomon Smith and Barney anyway?
