<<<why is money and stuff so important>>>

I doubt if it is the money..

Future Shock - thats another of my favorites - and that explains it to the hilt.

Its the uncertainty. The volatility. The world wide events have somehow compressed in time. Sickness and Recession used to take looong in coming, would stay for decades, and then another generation was sure to be spared of another recession or plague attack....People had jobs for a lifetime. She would never have thought of a job loss 50 years ago. Now - she can't be sure...

Toffler mentioned something about corridors of the past. That the pace of change would make human desperate to escape change. He advised on creation of corridors of the past - cities which were free from change...where people could go and live or even visit for some time - to avoid the stress. Someone called it white waters of change - and that was a great article. The author remarked that the change is always in reference to something. Now a days, the reference line itself changes and its psychologically, physiologically even physicaly decapacitating...!

Anyway...thats way off topic. But that may be the reason why people cluster around big cities. Maybe if I could see the future - I would take my earnings and retire in a quiet secluded place. But who knows about the future ? So I kill myself working, hoping to improve my future life !!!! So much like dog chasing its tail !!!
