"I don't think that Pfizer knows exactly where or how its drugs are sold once they ship out to the distributor."

Most drug companies focus their sales efforts for prescription drugs directly at the physicians, hospitals, hmo's etc, that prescribe them, not at third party distributors. The only "distributor" for a drug like Viagra would be the pharmaceutical brokers and pharmacies and I've never seen them advertise a prescription drug like that before. I'm not sure it's even legal for them to do so. However, I have seen consumer based advertising for prescription drugs in both the newspaper and on TV. Perhaps Pfizer is of the opinion that e-mail is just another medium conducive to advertising. I am actually shocked that I have not heard of this until now since I do own some Pfizer stock. It's one of those stocks I've had for years and intend to hold for years more. I intend to call investor relations when I get a chance and find out what is going on.
