Eric,

I too have near-perfect QCharts service. I use 3 different ISP's and very rarely change servers. Occasionally, QC changes me (based on their own system's determination of data flow). I log on in the morning at around 6:30AM EST and stay on all day. I maintain nearly the same watch lists all day. I use three charts with multiple studies up at all times. I use time and sales as well. Besides that, I use a fairly extensive Excel spreadsheet using Q-Link and two different time frame bars in real time. I rarely have any problems.

Having been a diagnostician for over 30 years, I have a problem with your unilateral assignment of blame to the Q-Chart program (well except when you are assigning it to their servers). With thousands of people using virtually the same software, and the vast majority having no performance problems, it certainly cannot be the software. Diagnostics is about eliminating possible problems and finding common denominators with those who are experiencing problems.

Having participated actively on this thread for several months (through all of these problems) I can assure you that their are many who have no issues. This eliminates the software as the problem.

Now let's talk about the common denominators of those experiencing problems:

1) Many of those experiencing problems are on the west coast. QC has also stated that the Mountain View servers are the most heavily used. This would reinforce the conclusion. However, many west coast users do not have data flow issues. This should tell us that while certain servers may be overloaded, the functionality of those servers is largely in tact.

2) Another common trait of many who have complained is the trading style. Those who have had the most problems log on later in the day (leading to queuing problems);

3) Many change "hot lists" throughout the day, not using symbols whose data has been previously cached in memory prior to servers being overloaded intraday;

4) Many flip from chart to chart watching for pattern setups, one after another (each new chart requires a large data dump through congested servers and internet for the chart to initially come up, while maintaining an open chart requires very little data flow);

5) Some experience data integrity problems, primarily involving thinly traded issues (which is common in every data provider I have ever used, suggesting that the data integrity is related to the data originator rather than the data vendor);

6) Many of the "complaints" come from newer users who are unfamiliar with the limitations of the program and with the function of the platform itself.

7) The majority refuse to believe that connectivity and data flow issues may in fact be at least partially responsible for their problems, and at the same time (oddly enough) refuse to download many of the free ping programs that have been suggested and prove to themselves that they are right.

8) And many continually insult and harangue those of us who are not having problems and yet continue to invest our valuable time trying to assist them in their finding answers to their problems.

Finally, if you are so convinced that data flow is not your problem, but that, in fact, your problem abides entirely with Q-Charts, I extend this challenge to you:

Download NeoTrace for free, and print out a trace or ping report showing throughput at each node along your connection route. Then post the report here on this thread. I will guarantee you that you won't find data flow traffic jams at the QC servers, but that in fact you will find them along the way. If I am wrong, let it be documented for all to see. Good luck resolving your problems. I only wish you could experience the same level of quality that I have had with this software since I've been a customer.

Matt
