Haqi, that statement was made to Lewis and not to Alan. When a person says they have no doctrine and only depends on Christ for their teacher what they are in actuality saying is it does not matter to them what they believe about important issues in the Bible. What if I said "oh I have no doctrine on Salvation I just know that I have been saved since a baby". or I don't really care what Church I go to just as long as they have a band.
This is just a small example but that person is ripe for any wind of doctrine that any anti-christ teacher might decide to convince them of. There is a place where Paul talks about deceptive teachers come behind him and turns widows away from Paul's doctrine and tells them that they have to obey some of the laws of Moses to go to Heaven.

2 Timothy 4
"3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry."

Regards,
Santiago

Dear Haqi,
I had put this verse out as an encouragement to keep the Lord Jesus as our teacher and avoid so many man made doctrines.
Mattbew 23
8: But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
Rabbi=Teacher
The whole problem with preterism and so many other doctrines is their need to study the teachings of men with the word of God. Rather than checking the teachings of men to the word IMO we should study the word to be prepared to answer to the teachings we hear.
So many times out of fear people hold to a doctrine instead of walking humbly with God and it is sad. That is how so many false teachers and groups have used the NT for decades to do horrific things. Some people give their loyalty to the doctrine.
This to me is like the law, it is a formula to make you the chosen few when God wants us to have a relationship with Him daily and not depend on a formula.
JMO,
Nancy
