I wrote this post a year ago. It might help show why this wasn't a good financial year for AMD. "AMD in 1999 - A little baseball analogy here. For this to be a very good year, AMD will have to hit for the cycle. Single New Tier 1 OEM - AMD will be racking up sales with this Double Timely release of the K6-3 - ASPs will be benefited most with this Homerun (the most exciting one) Release of K7 - It will be a shot heard around the world Triple (the hardest one to attain) Successful start-up of Dresden AND smooth transition to the .18 process in Austin." Message 7065484 Got a single or two, but one of them stopped using AMD processors. The double went foul. Got halfway to third. And the Homerun WAS a shot heard around the world. Unfortunately, batting 500 doesn't cut it in the real world. What do you guys think is needed this year? Here are a few possibilities: New Tier 1 OEMs Tier 1 OEMs using Athlons in their business PCs No Dresden screw-ups Successful ramp-up of Thunderbird and Spitfire by mid-year Successful ramp-up of Mustang before 2001 Continued success with Flash Timely and volume introduction of socket platform Timely introduction of a multi-processor platform I am probably forgetting a few things or you may not agree with something so please respond.
