I really don't know anything about Canadian system. Its has to be better than that of Australia. But I *have* lived in Australia. Only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches.....

Ike I do not wish to argue with you. I guess these are personal preferences. I guess if there is rascism and sexism and agism, the govt should tell the immigrants upfront. The badge of "Equal Opportunity" should not be flashed..when you lodge a complaint, their whole legal system looks the other way...

Immigration for Australia is a necessity, their whole economic system will collapse if they stop immigration....and only the very desparate *want* free citizenship. And I think Australian govt exploits that desperation. have you seen where and how the "Asian" immigrants live ? I was offered citizensip and refused. The ambulance - well - I am asked to caugh up a hefty amount in medical insurance for the priviledge Ike - over and above the 50% and an additional 2% of medicare levy....and when my house was burgled thrice in a week, the fingerprinting guy took *3* days (not 3 hours) to reach me - everytime -....what was the 100s of thousands I paid in taxes doing for me ???? What services ???

Canada may be a wholely different ballgame...and I plead total ignorance....i have heard a lot of good things...the 7 months pregnancy leave and all that. if it works, its great...

About the broken back - these are called job hazards. I would also pay a soldier who goes to war more for his patriotism, his risk and the hard work he puts in his combat readiness - but he knows the risks !!!!

In the end - its all a matter of choice. You like that particular style of govt, I like capitalism. Thats the reason why we have various idealogies al florishing in the world. I for one *love* CA and the choices it offers. I hear Australia has started GST. Well...they are on the road..and maybe one day they will have a reformed govt....

Give me a break. Over 40% of our federal income tax goes to entitlements- ie direct checks into the pockets of those who can't or refuse to work. Social Security, medicare, medicaid.

When my brother was driven to the hospital in an ambulance because of a burst appendix, my parents paid the $800 for the trip. Most hospitals are private companies.

A great idea that has been occurring recently are tax free communities where people only pay for the services they actually use. You have to be rich to live there, though, according to the letter of the law. If your house catches fire- you pay for the fire department to come help you. same with police, etc.
----------------------------------------------------
then when THEY need a service, they can't figure out why its not there. in other words, when their aging parent needs an ambulance, the ambulance should be there in thirty seconds.
