Nihil, you write: "You have I fear learned to avoid trouble in too many unfree places and understand the need to conform." I think your fear is unfounded. I have no problem expressing what I know may be unpopular opinions -- although I grant I try not to be confrontational, since that almost ensures that my "opponent" will not listen to what I have to say. I do avoid invective, not that I am not tempted sometimes (I count to ten). My feeling is that invective hurts the person who uses it more than the person it is aimed at. It also lowers the tone of discussion generally. And, of course, it's a poor way to "win" an argument. Therefore, I prefer to forego my freedom to hurl epithets at others. Joan
