I think your first post, my response to it, and yours to that really do cover too many subjects to discuss all at the same time. It is late here on the West Coast, and I am quite tired.

So for now, I could ask what is the direct connection between Christianity and increased life span during this century? I do not see one. Better health is based on better nutrition and disease control, and right now non-Christian Asians are its primary beneficiaries. In fact, if we were truly a Christian nation, I would think we would be making sure the Africans had all the AIDS drugs they needed, instead of being overly concerned about huge profits drug companies are making. I do not see a very real connection between Christian values and capitalism.

As far as the way Europeans are perceived globally, are you aware of the excesses of colonialism? The opium wars, where England consciously addicted the Chinese? The destruction of pagan religions by missionaries packing disease and Christianity? I could go on and on, but I am getting sleepy . . .

Greece would be nice, later. I do not enjoy debating with you, because I think this all really hurts your feelings, while I see it as intellectual and simply an interesting discussion.

Actually, I reread your post and would like to say a couple more things.

In response to this--

<<First, I would be careful in confusing "Christianity" with people in positions of Christian authority, many of whom were/are deeply ****ed up.>>

How, then, do you determine who is a Christian and who is not? One of my objections to organized religion is that evil people operate under the cover and respectability of religion. I believe this is dangerous.

If you can be deeply ****ed up and still be a Christian, then what good exactly does Christianity do?

<<The point you make is a rich basis for historical discussion -- not so much theological discussion. As I have suggested before, why argue endlessly when proof, on both sides, is lacking.>>

I do not concede that proof for my point of view is lacking. History is somewhat open to interpretation, but Christianity is alarming in how much polarization and evil and death have come as its result.
