James,

Re: Gateway and AMD.

There were mucho rumors 3-4 weeks ago.

But nothing has happened.

Either Gateway will announce in a few weeks or it is lost to AMD again - my intuition is that somehow AMD has lost it again.

In addition the 800/850 announcement is rumored for Jan 3/4/10 depending upon whom you believe.

Also they may release Q4 estimates early as an upside surpise.

And finally there may be some news on the fab partner and sale os comm division at conf call in a few weeks.

It will be an interesting 2/3 weeks.

regards,

Kash

James,

Hi, I just noticed you are the same James from MRVC thread. :)

There has been lots of talk regarding GTW offering Athlon and none of which have proven to be correct. I personally got an email from a GTW rep telling me that Athlon GTW would be available middle of December 1999. Also a Zdnet article had listed a GTW Athlon computer as a possible buy for Holiday computer shoppers. There were many more rumors as well.

It is clear to me that GTW was ready to offer an Athlon based machine and they pulled out. Why they pulled out is open to speculation, maybe availability was an issue, maybe Intel offered a financial incentive, maybe something else. Who knows.

GTW could announce an Athlon machine any time but I am not holding my breath.

Mani

re: "What is definitively known, rumored, etc......?"

What is definitely known is that GATEWAY is in a state of confusion. They have been screwed by their unkept promises from inteL. They are last in line for high end Athlons (after forth tier suppliers) given their erratic behavior and failure to keep their previous commitments to AMD (which, at the moment is producing the high end Athlons [Is there such a thing as a low-end Athlon?] in quantity and having no problem finding buyers.)

The rumor is that "Ted Waited Too Long" is off in an isolated mountain cabin in a densely wooded area receiving moral support from pauL englE.

DARBES
