Is Q+TI a good combo?

There is nothing better to start off a new year than a rumor. How about Q is going to merge with Texas Instruments?

The advantages are obvious. TI DSP is one generation ahead of those by LU/MOT/ADI. TI is an analog IC leader. TI is going after 3G. TI also has superb fabrication technologies, which I think Q must have to compete against the likes of Philips and Intel. There are also disadvantages. TI IC covers businesses that we are not interested in such as disk drives, motors, and glue logics. TI also has a very different culture from that of Qualcomm. But the question is, does the advantage offset the disadvantage, and can we make this merger work?

TI is very large, and a merger of this size is hard to pull off, but if we can get this deal to work, we will no doubt become the most important semiconductor maker in the world.
