And that story reminds me of Freud who got cancer of the jaw from decades of cigar smoking, and was subjected to, over a period of years, many, many operations in an attempt to cut the cancer away... and yet he designed for himself a wire apparatus that would continue to hold the cigar in his mouth after so much of his jaw was gone that he couldn't hold it there with his lips.
