Calendars are conventions. Ours is not based on the actual incarnate "manger thing", but on some black robes' abstract and official Best Guess of when that might have happened. Black robes dead a thousand years now. (Or so.)
And while research might adjust or correct our understanding of the timing of the nominal calendar-anchoring event, once the calendar receives (received?) its imprimatur it rapidly takes (Took.) on a tremendous inertia. I, being famously inert, couldn't give a toss about New Revelations re agricultural accommodations for putative divine illegitimi. But I have this craven streak regarding dead black robes. So my my my Millennium will arrive "by the numbers" on 01/01/01.
