Bre X is an excellent reminder that we should encourage the posting of any negative comments as well as the cheerleading comments of the fans and boosters. I think that was the point of the brief discussion between Linda and me. For true investors, the negative comments that have some basis, may be more valuable than the steady stream of positive news.

Of course Bre X was an example of outright fraud and criminal behavior which I trust is not likely in the case of Softbank. (Unless of course, They don't really have any Yahoo in their treasury). The thought does occurr that the only way we know that is through publication by Softbank itself. Hopefully the Government reporting requirements have independent accountants reviewing the data. (Of course, criminal bribery is always posssible).

In the long run, we all have to consider when the long run has arrived. That is, when will the discussion of profitability for the internet companies going to raise it's ugly head? The danger for Softbank seems to be the possible bursting of the entire internet bubble (if it is a bubble). I think your fear seems to be that it might occurr in the year 2000 (probably the latter half). I think it has much longer to run, but as someone once said when asked to predict the future direction of the stock market, "the market will fluctuate."

What scares me about your prediction of 800K yen for Softbank is not that the number is outrageously out of the question. It is that I am looking at the calendar for 2000 and wondering just when we will hit 800K <G>.
