They were a little rough with Wycliffe.

One advantage to a common language in the Church was it ensured unity.

There is that famous story of the bus load of German pilgrims arriving at Lourdes not long after WWII ended. Understandably, there was a little tension with the locals when they disembarked.

The tension dissipated when they sang the Salve Regina in Latin together. It was a language they all knew and understood. It was a tremendous unifying force.
