i got this email from a friend in california today :

Well....well....well....I returned last evening from Jacksonville, FL
where I
attended an incredible New Year's Eve party and had ZERO problems with
y2k or
with traveling on January 1st. As a matter of fact, the headline in
today's
L.A. Times reads, "U.S., Firms Overreacted to Y2K Fix, Critics Say.
Minuscule problems throughout the world, the market is still booming,
and Mr.
Gloom and Doom is eating crow. Fortunately, I kept my $$$ in the
market and
am sitting pretty for it. Oh well, at least you didn't join a weird
cult or
hold up a local bank. Happy January..
