PollyAnna - Re: the Athlon system, "the better mousetrap at the better price" to the consumer

Are you talking about those Compaq 58xx systems that keep locking up? What makes a system that locks up better for the consumer?

It seems that Compaq is fast heading for Tier 2 status in the retail PC biz.

SpryGuy - Re: " GTW and Dell risk rustication (OK if I say that Bill?) of their image in the marketplace by not offering the Athlon system"

According to IC Insights Inc - semibiznews.com

The Top 5 U.S. PC makers in the US with the fastest growth rates (1999 vs. 1998) were Dell (58%), Gateway (39%), HP (22%), Compaq (20%) and IBM (6%).

You might note that Dell, Gateway and HP currently offer NO AMD products and they exhibited the GREATEST GROWTH in 1999 !
