All, re Handheld GG

re Palm IPO, check out 3Com/Palm FAQ at: 3com.com

I see the actual distribution ratio is TBD; COMS shareholders will collectively get 80% of the Palm Shares, the other 20% to be spun off in an IPO. But, how many shares will be issued in total remains TBD. This ambiguity IMO helps explain why COMS shares are waxing and waning despite Palm spinoff announcement.

I posted an article on the G&K thread re the gap between consumer wireless desires they anticipate being filled and what can really be fulfilled now (The demand is clearly there, but will the product pacify consumers?

. A definite tornado watch in the making. I think Palm's "KISS method" of web content access via "web clipping" versus full-blown web surfing makes sense right now, but take a look at what Symbian based smartphones will look like...see the symbian.com website.

I looked at Psion as part of the handheld OS "basket," as part owners of Symbian, but I was underwhelmed by Psion's own financials. Their revenue (of course, that's 'turnover' on their side of the pond) was down significantly, which they had explained in a preannouncement as caused by deferred purchases to get their newer products. Strange, I still see Palm III pushed in retailer circulars, alongside V and VII. Also, FWIW I do see "sub $1000" devices (read: $999 or thereabouts) from Psion that compete more with HP Jordana as more of a limited-appeal high tech toy and so less of a factor in handheld market. So I am not comfortable holding Psion. All that said, I like COMS and NOK (Symbian stake owner) as my handheld OS "GG basket," esp. after reading these PRs from symbian website...
