I think it's good ole "buy on the rumor and sell on the news". The rumor was that things would go well with Y2K and the news is that it has.

I've read in ten places that the coming week is supposed to be a battle between formerly frightened Y2K money from the sidelines going in, and patient people skimming huge gains in a new tax year getting out.

I wouldn't be surprised if we're in for a very bumpy ride over the next few weeks. You know how I worry.
