THE LATEST AOL-AT&T RUMOR Kevin Prigel America Online (AOL, $76) Dec. 27, 1999 AOL and AT&T (T, $51) have been at the negotiation table numerous times in the past. The companies publicly admitted to talks earlier this fall after StreetAdvisor.com broke the story. However, as they had many times in the past, negotiations broke down without an agreement. A new rumor making its rounds has AOL and AT&T once again at the table. There is no information that StreetAdvisor.com has to indicate that this rumor is true and this is the least likely time of year for two companies to be talking. Most of the executives are home with their families, trying to enjoy the holidays making a meeting of AOL and AT&T executives, who are a few hundred miles apart (most negotiations still happen in person), very difficult. Secondly, Y2K and a busy Christmas season have diverted management's attention. I would be very surprised to see an America Online-AT&T deal announced in the near future. >>
