".. i have $200 now that i need to spend cause the atm's work "

gee twist, you were really preparing for a catastrophe werent you. $200 wouldnt get you a Y2K survival food basket here at Dragers. You really need to put some of that cash to work...now if you had sunk that $200 into Sun...

Yes, I understood what you were saying; I understand that they're going to try to reduce liquidity that they pumped into the system to cushion Y2K mania. But when you say "print money", I know you don't mean the extra $50b of green that they actually printed with ink, because that's noise in the system.

Not being an expert on Fed operations, the only way I know about that they can affect liquidity without a rate move (which I doubt they'll do tomorrow) is to do their Open Market Operations thingie where they sell T-bills or whatever to dealers and pay themselves by reducing banks' reserves, thus reducing maximum demand deposits thus reducing the money supply. What I don't see is how they can make a difference quickly with all the liquidity they've pumped in over the past couple of months.

I'm not disagreeing with what you're claiming the Fed intends to do. I'm just saying that I don't think they can do it fast enough to have major near term effects. I think whatever happens in the next couple of weeks will be the result of regular market action by big and small players, local and global, and it's hard to predict what it will be.

Twister,

There is a new graphical user interface for LINUX.
There is also some additional enhancements that are downloadable. I'll get the references for you when I get my magazine back.

:)
