Back in the sixties, Norman Mailer published a book called "Cannibals and Christians." It was a compilation of previously published short pieces. In his introductory essay, he explained the title as his observation that in his experience most self-proclaimed Christians (and true-believers of most every stripe!) exhibited the least tolerant and "Christian" attitudes. By comparison, it was his experience that people who claimed no such religious justification for their actions were far more likely to behave in a tolerant and "Christian" way.

PS. Some of my best friends are Christians (or say they are.)
