My birthday??!? Nope: it's July, not January....

BTW, the current Kohl scam in Germany is pretty disturbing from a French viewpoint: it's clear that it's not only the German chancellor/CDU politico who's got the flak from his fellow political adversaries --IT'S ALSO WHAT HELMUT KOHL REPRESENTED ON THE EUROPEAN SCENE!

Kohl was perhaps the most Francophile German leader in post-WWII Germany (Kohl's wife speaks French fluently). I read somewhere that even Adenauer was rather a nationalist (Adenauer quote: "There are hyper-Europeans, Europeans, and Euroskeptics --I'm a European").

The fact that France's foremost oil company, Elf (recently bought out by TotalFina) was pointed to as one of Kohl's slush funds is indicative, IMO, that it's Kohl's pro-Europe, Francophile legacy/agenda that is under attack by Germany's hawkish bourgeoisie. Kohl was too fond of France --time for Germany to call the shots in Europe and to give the French a "junior partner" status?

Happy New Year to All,
Gus.
