Everyone uses focus groups and so what if you don't know what you are looking for or your targeted group is misdefined to begin with. Having run successful political campaigns, I know it makes a difference what questions you ask and what you do with the answers. Most importantly you need to brainstorm what you think you are finding with an intelligent group of savvy colleagues and weigh each of the options critically. My opposition this Fall did a poll which showed them to be far ahead. They failed to work to get out their core voters. Guess what? They lost, and they lost big.
