ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2000--In a wide-ranging interview with Motley Fool co-founder David Gardner, Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN) and Time Magazine's "Person of the Year," stated that his company was not currently focused on short-term profitability.

Discussing Amazon.com's successful holiday season, the competitive retail landscape, and his company's plans for the future, Bezos shared his thoughts on the January 1 edition of The Motley Fool Radio Show, a weekly program heard on more than 120 stations around the United States.

The entire interview can be heard online at fool.com.

Talking with David Gardner, co-founder of The Motley Fool Inc. and the show's co-host, Bezos said about Amazon.com's profitability: "No company cares more about long-term profitability and return on invested capital than Amazon.com, but we do think it would be the wrong time to focus on short-term profitability because there are so many new opportunities that demand to be invested in."
