RSA Security Licenses Linux Security Software to Macmillan USA, Inc.
Macmillan's New Secure Web Server Product Protected by RSA BSAFE SSL-C Security Software
BEDFORD, Mass., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS - news), the most trusted name in e-security, today announced that Macmillan USA, Inc. has signed an agreement to license RSA Security software for use in a Linux- based secure Web server the publisher plans to include in several of its upcoming Linux software products. In addition to licensing RSA BSAFE® SSL-C security protocol components, Macmillan has contracted RSA Security's Professional Services organization to perform the actual implementation of this Linux-based secure Web server product.

This license and services agreement is intended to allow Macmillan to achieve important time-to-market benefits while greatly simplifying the development of their new Linux-based secure Web server product by obtaining the secure protocol, the underlying cryptography and efficient, cost-effective implementation from a single vendor. In addition, RSA Security's Professional Services consultants are working with Macmillan to review their business needs and implement an appropriate security strategy for future Linux products

''When it comes to tested and proven security components, we didn't have to look any further than RSA Security,'' said Lynn Zingraf, Vice President and Publisher of Macmillan Software. ''RSA Security is the clear leader in the security industry, offering the full complement of products and services we require to ensure timely, cost-effective product development. Macmillan is excited about the opportunity to include RSA's Linux security components in some of our upcoming Linux products, such as the Secure Server Linux Edition and our 6-in-1 Professional Suite for Linux.''

''We are pleased to welcome Macmillan as an RSA Security customer,'' said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA Security. ''Our industry-leading RSA BSAFE SSL product, combined with the implementation expertise of the company's Professional Services organization, will support Macmillan's goal of bringing their new, Linux-based secure Web product to market quickly and efficiently.''

The RSA BSAFE SSL-C product includes everything needed to implement the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2 and v3) protocol, as well as the Transport Layer Security (TLS v1.0) protocol, for banking, financial services, web publishing, government and other consumer and electronic commerce applications. RSA BSAFE SSL-C software has been licensed by many leading companies, including Galileo, Nortel, Adobe, Sterling and Symbian, a partnership of Nokia, Motorola and Ericsson. The RSA BSAFE SSL product includes extensive production quality sample code, API libraries, certificate authority components, a wide range of socket libraries, full user and API documentation plus other important features that are intended to help developers create secure SSL-enabled applications quickly and more cost-effectively.

''Security is a particularly critical but specialized part of e-commerce software development, and requires people with knowledge and experience to do the job right while meeting the customer's overall business needs,'' said Rick Welch, vice president of Professional Services at RSA Security. ''RSA Professional Services is an efficient and safe way to acquire quickly the expertise needed to ensure that application security is implemented properly.''

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a general-purpose Internet protocol that provides server authentication, optional client authentication and a secure communications channel for e-commerce transactions and communications to prevent eavesdropping, tampering or message forgery in client-server applications. SSL is currently supported by all major web browsers and servers, and is used by many industry-leading software and hardware companies to incorporate secure communications within their applications. Users of SSL include business, government and services development organizations, hardware device vendors and ISVs.
