The Whittington reference in QCOM was related to what I felt (feel) was a similar call on Micron Technology by Mr. Whittington in 1995. In the call, Whittington made a $200 price target on Micron Technology and called for EPS of $17/share in FY2000; MU's EPS was around $2.50-3.00/share that year. The call signaled a top in the stock within 2 days.

I feel that the analyst who made the 2009 prediction on CDMA was pulling a Rick Whittington. Nobody has the right to make any predictions about 2009, whether it be about CDMA, DRAM, or whatever. Ultimately I felt that a top might have occurred in QCOM. Indeed, the stock has not rallied since then. In the last two days the stock has opened up high in premarket and could never sustain the momentum.

The market also severely corrected due to interest rate jitters that summer. See my discussion on interest rates on the QCOM thread for further reference:

Just history screaming at me, IMHO.
