Who's Tony Dwyer?

BTW, I read somewhere either on SI or Yahoo that MC didn't care about losing consumer PCs market shares as long as Compaq maintain profit
margins. Couple this with Yahoo's posting regarding Alpha and
8 way Intel servers "Wildfire". I'm beginning to believe he means it.

Still, I'm in favor of bundling Compaq ISP service with their PCs and gaining market shares<G>. It could happen (and pigs will fly).

Mikey

I said the same thing about Richard Gardner in FEB OF 98.
Remember Lucy Painter who was optomistic?

she was wrong and GARDNER WAS RIGHT.

News came out today that CPQ is holding at 11% market share. Would you interpret this as a positive (holding to market) or negative (decreasing margins with same market share).

Compaq is the World Leader in Consumer PC Market; Number One Vendor Worldwide for Past 12 Months
HOUSTON, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- According to International Data Corporation's latest quarterly market share report, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) is the unmatched world leader in the Consumer PC market. With more than an 11 percent market share for the Q399, as well for the past 12 months, Compaq is the number one Consumer PC vendor and has sold more PCs in the world for home use than any other brand since October 1998.(1)

Worldwide demand for Compaq Consumer PCs was exceptionally strong in 3Q99 for both desktops and portables, with respective unit shares of 11.4% and 14.6%. Compaq home desktops and portables also captured the number one spot in key geographical regions including North America and Latin America.

Other 3Q99 data from IDC showed that Compaq edged into first place in the U.S. education market, and that the company continued its first-place ranking in the U.S. government market.

``Compaq is preferred around the world over any other brand because our home PCs offer consumers the best combination of features, value, technology and services, and are readily available for purchase,' said Mike Larson, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Business Unit. ``Unlike several of our competitors who have pulled out of the home PC market during this past quarter, Compaq's popularity is at all time high, which indicates we know how to deliver the right products at the right place and at the right time.'

The Compaq Presario Internet PC is also the best selling brand at U.S. retail, according to NPD Intelect, capturing the number one spot in 31 out of the last 32 months since March 1997.
