Jim: I just go to trade history each day and use a calculator...I subtract $20 per trade for the commission. If you do it daily, it is not too tedious. I had nearly 10k trades this year, last year I waited til the end and I had 4000 trades, took me 40 hours straight to get it right...

I dont use any tax software, just Excel.

Jim,

I use Quicken. When I get my hard copy confirmations in the mail I enter them - I would suggest that you do something similar since you are an active trader. If you let it accumulate it will be one big nightmare - either time consuming if you do it yourself, or some accountant will charge you a small fortune. If you use Turbo Tax or Tax Cut you can download the scd D into these programs. Good luck! Now let me check out our new location.

Jim,

Last year I used a program call StockTax to match up trades and produce a Sched. D type report from the ETrade and Datek trade reports.

It's a quirky program, but I don't know of anything else better.

OT: what do you use daily to keep track of your etrade trades?? I've got quicken and turbo tax deluxe ordered.. will that be sufficient? i would hope so

With Quicken you can download your trades from many brokers, including E*Trade, so that you don't need to enter them by hand.
