I know of one company that sent e mail to hundreds of customers informing them that their orders had been shipped on January 1, 2999.

And that's software that was written within the last 6 months!

There was also a more serious problem with a rather important log file where the year fields had been expanded to 4 digits, but all records added in 2000 were immediately deleted anyway.

Or so I heard.
