In SI Navigation you can choose Stock Screener. You can also choose it for one of your icons at the top of your customized page. The screens are very useful. I've set up about 5 or 6, with one a bear screen.

If there is an opening bid/ask the opening may be the ask if the opening trade is a buy, but it could be the bid if the opening trade is a sell, and for more active stocks with multiple market makers, it could be in between, from my experience. I still like the simplicity of your approach.
