If you have another ISP, you can get AOL for $9.95 a month.
That's expensive for me, since I have a cable connect, but I like the service.
If you have a free ISP, then you come out ahead (and so does AOL!).
Free ISPs are having alot of difficulties. Their advertising isn't proving to be effective, and advertisers aren't ponying up the cash to reach 1 million subscribers. The economics don't work, for the advertiser or the ISP. I don't think free will last UNLESS broadband really takes off. If phone dial up continues to be the main connect for another 2 years or so, the free guys are going to have severe shakeouts.
