SSB recently named EMC their top pick for 2000. Below is a passage from the SSB research report regarding McData. Hmmm, what is the chance we see a McData IPO? ...just a wild guess, but assuming we see a McData IPO, do you suppose SSB would be involved? It seems like a no-brainer for McData to take advantage of the hot sector with an IPO.

My questions are not directed at anyone specific. Just tossing it out for discussion. Anyhoe, here's what SSB had to say about McData

MCDATA - ROBUST STORAGE NETWORKING
----------------------------------
EMC's subsidiary, McDATA, has developed some of the most sophisticated Fibre Channel networking technology in the market today. McDATA provides high-end switches, called Directors. Directors are modular and redundant Fibre Channel fabric switches. McDATA's Directors are the only
networking equipment serving the ESCON (mainframe) market. As a result of their reliability and technological innovations, McDATA's Director commands premium pricing (approximately $3,000 per port, end user price), which is roughly double that of a fabric switch.

We believe McDATA's Director technology has some of the most
leverageable technology because it can move down toward supplying low-end fabric switches or migrate up toward being an integral part of SAN management. We believe McDATA is one of EMC's most prized assets.

Happy New Year to all and Go Terps!
