Today's supercomputer is tomorrow's enterprise server.

I don't expect Sun to abandon SPARC for Intel, and don't accept the implied premise of your statement about them doing so.

JMHO.

What happens if Sun goes over to using Intel processors because they can't compete in price/performance otherwise?

Can't compete with whom? Sun's margins aren't the ones shrinking. Intel's margins are shrinking. Dell's margins are shrinking. Everybody's margins are shrinking except Sun's.

Predicting that Sun is going to have trouble competing is more than groundless, it's just lame. You must have one of the worst cases of 'wishful thinking' on record.

Can you point to a computer vendor that Sun has had problems competing against? Oh, but suddenly it's going to all fall in on Sun once Intel Meconium[1] is released? <yawn>

Who will want a thousand processors? There has always been a quest for greater rather than lesser computing power. Applications such as human genome project; genetic mapping; drug design; space exploration; other forms of modelling and design, etc. SUNW will not re-sell Intel processors. McNealy has said so on many occasions. Boy the stock is going to take a 3 point hit at the open. Yikes!!
