As to the extra costs of Rambus? If they take the same space and are made of similar stuff and have the same yield, then they should converge on common memory costs, plus the Rambus royalty. Right now the price is high. Is that because they have low yields? or a simple initial high price at introduction that will soon drop?

High RAMBUS costs are due to the combination of volume and higher costs associated with the new and costly test equipment they require. DDR RAMBUS modules have additional cost component associated with them - they require some kind of heat sinks to dissipate the heat generated by the chips.
