For the record: The average concensus rating of the stocks in the SPX has been successively more toward the buy side the last few days. It gave absolutely no hint, no warning, no signal whatsoever of the weakness in the SPX the last two days. I will therefore terminate it's computation and scrap the historical data. My feeling was that a particular analyst could not be relied upon, but an average rating from many different analysts on many different stocks could quite possibly give a useful signal. Man was I ever wrong!
