PB,

Re:"coppermine availability and Intel risk"

There seems to be a major disconnect here between expectations and demand and delivery of coppermines in Q4.

You do keep up the corporate mantra that PIII's at good bin splits are rushing out the door on forecast etc. And you have also denied that yields have been poor.

Several analysts have speculated that Coppermines will ship less than 2M units in Q4. Intel's Otellini had said "millions". Lets assume 2M units is the real number.

Assuming yields are "excellent" Intel should have yielded at least 200 good die per wafer.

Thats only 10,000 wafers or a drop in the bucket in terms of Intels capacity.

Either Intel has had DISMAL yield problems.
Or volume of coppermines will be 2-3x expectations of 2M units.
Or Intel has been LYING to the business community about its 0.18 capacity. Remember they have allegedly been "shipping" 0.18 since mid-year. They had stated at the October "launch" that 4 fabs were ramping the 0.18 coppermines.

Something is not right here and we all know it.

We will find out pretty soon I guess.

regards,

Kash

PB, Well that link went into hyperspace and came out in 1996 with your read name etc posted there?
Is that you? Message 124545

Well, I still feel than Intel was prodded into hasty actions and tumbling launches and landed badly. Can they recover?, yess....costs extra though.
