Win2000 was released to OEMs for testing on Dec 17th. DELL will be able to sell systems with the "real" Win2000 in late January, about 2 weeks ahead of retail availability. After the "Official" release on Feb 17, they will also be able to "upgrade" the many DELL customers who bought systems with the beta RC3 Win2000 product installed. I don't think there is any "leaking" going on about this.

Per the link at
windows2000expo.com
MSD will be a keynote speaker at the Windows2000 launch event, along with Bill Gates and CPQ's Michael Capellas - lots of others are also "Platinum" sponsors but did not get keynote slots.

Also, regarding consumer sales - Win2000 is a commercial OS, W98 is still the consumer OS. But the majority of DELL's sales are commercial, more than any other vendor, so they stand to benefit greatly from this launch. Given that more than 38% of CPQ's PC sales are to consumer, vs. less than 10% for DELL, DELL outsells everyone else in the commercial PC space, even on a world-wide basis.
