Globalstar ad in Outdoor Life mag. (from Yahoo G* board)

It looks like G* has improved the content of the magazine ads since last month. I checked this months National Geographic Adventure magazine for a G* ad, but did not find one. Last months issue did have a G* ad.

This is probably old news to everyone but I came across a ad in outdoor life for globalstar .( JAN 2000) So it looks like the company is really ready to start selling these expensive little toys.

Globalstar satellite phones WORK WHEREVER life takes you.

Now you have a choice . With globalstar you can stay in touch even when your outdoor adventures take you beyond cellular coverage. It's a high- quality , reliable, and affordable voice and short message service.

Coverage extends far beyond cellular. Inital coverage will reach across North America , Western Europe, and parts of Africa , Asia, and South America, as well as Australia.

Goes on to list distributors , Airtouch, Airstar, Sevenseas communication...........................So what's my point? ....Well , if they're advertising in a magazine I read then they must be taking out ads in every damn magazine across the country!!!!! ( GOTTA LOVE EXPOSURE )

I don't think I'd like my wife calling me while I was out fishing though!.....But it would come in handy if the boat sunk......

Yes, but many people had the same hope about Iridium.

I hope the same, and I am suggesting that dropping a $1.50 per minute extra charge on calls that cross the atlantic to Europe on the PSTN at a cost to Globalstar of probably 5 cents/minute will repel bi-continental customers. I'm saying that if I were Globalstar's Service Provider, I would be looking at the popularity of "one rate USA" type cellular plans and saying to myself "global... global... global... what am I missing here." It would be nice to see globalstar marketing get AHEAD of the curve, which is something Iridium failed spectacularly to do.

Yes, calls to Burma probably should cost $1 + more. But I can call from California to England for 7 cents a minute RETAIL. The pricing decision to charge me $1.49 airtime + $1.50 "long distance" for that call is odious.

Ralph, I think that should say some international calls. Calling from some places to some places CAN still be expensive. I'm sure (well at least I hope)they will work out the price that guarantees the largest total revenue after some tinkering with the numbers.
