This is news to me. Then why would they ever go with fmkt in the first place?

They didn't really give birth to Commerce though... I think Mark Hoffman went to GM early on and got the buy-in for the vision - Hoffman had picked up the old distrivision product and wanted to make something of it. Maybe he worked some old sybase contacts there... I don't know.
