Picking back up my ruminations: In a sense, Christian civilization was summarized by The Consolations of Philosophy and the Bible. The "Deist" strand could be divorced from miracles, sacraments, and "mysteries" like the Trinity, but it grew out of an interpretation of philosophy as supporting faith, a selection of doctrinal elements compatible with faith, and with an understanding conditioned by the overarching civilization of faith. Thus, even the "Deist" element fits into the formulation "Judeo- Christian ethics" as commonly understood.......
