Here I believe you are wrong. It states very plainly that when we dump these mortal pieces of junk we call bodies, we will indeed stand before God and the book of life. I think the concept you are refering to left out just one small word, and that no mortal is good enough ...

Dear, as you know full well, I have read The Great Divorce many times. BTW, it is not only to repent but also to cast off the corruptions into sin of the fundamentally healthy and God-given.

That no one is good enough to stand in the presence of God is, indeed, a basic premise of Christianity; we pray for mercy rather justice, remember. Personally, I have some doubt about whether God is as as legalistic and hair-splitting as people can be when it comes to who is saved and who is not.
