Dead Battery... you bet... lose you're whole system. Boot will result with just a c:\ prompt if you're lucky.

You absolutely need to follow up on it.

DELL website is a wealth of support or call them.

Dell or Gateway have been great as far as my experiences have gone. Buying an off-brand, if you don't expect to rip off the shell and start replacing boards, is a mistake! Memory way too low. See this site.. but consider it a minimum:

Software...... as much as I hate to say it, go with someone who will provide Microsoft office with the package. Buying it off the shelf is mucho $$$$. It's the standard and sharing spreadsheets, word processing docs etc. will be easy. I can easily work at home and take the floppy to work.
