The literature skirts a few issues:

- does it also encode/decode audio (AC-3, Layer II) ?

- what image dimensions can siml. video encode/decode support ? (though 480x480 is plenty enough for PVR)

The number of supported coded video horizontal dimensions (720,640, 480,352) is a major plus.

Didn't iCompression and Stream Machines previously claim to be the first in this market ?

Hidden in the Forbes article is mention of cable modem(DOCSIS?) chip. Looks like Cube is beginning to turn itself around. It's at least nice publicity for a process shrink and new firmware.

DVD-VR -- very nice to have and very quick to market, as the ink on the DVD-VR spec is barely dry.
