Think in terms of YOUR horizon. If the kids have three years still to go (as an example) then this is what you should concentrate on instead of biting your nails on a weekly basis.

I could have a much better return - probably in the order of 200% - by buying Nasdaq leaps start of the year and sit back to watch the show. Three years? Even more of the same argument. We're always pushed to do something (either by the broker, peer pressure...) so doing nothing is - well, sometimes stupid, but usually a sign of discipline.

Fanny Mae... Depends on how the building boom will progress in 2000. Long term it's as safe a bet as one can wish.
