The analyst estimates is what counts, not my rule. That is how wall street operates. As I said, you can spin it any way you want, but it won't change the facts.

It's not quite like that. The company's earnings forecasts are made before the end of the quarter, when there is some uncertainty (what if there is a huge storm that defers a week of sales, or a competitor surprises with a product announcement that reduces ASPs, etc.)

So the analysts expect the company's forecasts to include a "guard band". What would you think of a processor rated for 500MHZ that couldn't overclock to 510?

If a company's earnings come out right at the company's estimate, the analysts treat it as meaning that something unforeseen has gone wrong, and used up the "guard band"
