Where we used to live there was this strange noise that used to occur everytime the heat came on. Anyway we had the heating guy over several times, tried to locate the noise ourselves and generally drove ourselves nuts trying to find it! After like a month or something I finally found it...it was coming from the heating vent on the floor. The airflow flap in the vent would hit the side of the vent and make a noise. A simple piece of electrical tape took care of the whole very annoying situation.
